About the Team
An haute-couture fashion consultant and dynamic businesswoman based in New Zealand, Theresa knew there must be a better way to service the fashion industry with a clear conscience. She set out to change the karma of clothing and ended up launching Seed to Self to be a laboratory for social innovation and transformation.
Ashoka India Fellow, Gijs Spoor, is a trained agricultural engineer, social entrepreneur and consultant. He successfully set up two organic fairtrade cotton value chain companies and trained 15,000 farmers over the last 12 years. He then launched a social entrepreneurship incubator. GIjs also hosts a leadership learning hub for the Presencing Institute, set up by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) professor, Otto Scharmer.
To date, Seed to Self has initiated three programmes: a flagship product range, a fashion design institute programme (Seed to Self Matatika) and a professional learning journey (Seed to Self Journey). We have prototyped other programmes to complement our three core activities, including an international high school exchange and mentoring for small to medium fashion enterprises.
Seed to Self Journey is about transforming fashion and textile industry practices at a time which demands radical and genuine change by following the Indian cotton textile value chain from its source to its final destination, meeting organic farmers, artisans and other workers behind the scenes.
The Future is Bright
Going forward, Seed to Self wants to further develop successful programmes that inspire and connect change-makers across the industry and grow the movement for transformation. For this, we seek to partner with fashion colleges, institutes, designers, brands, manufacturers and research organisations to leverage joint networks and knowledge.
